Heather Ackroyd and Dan Harvey love grass: how it grows, dies, and shines a brilliant green. Since the early 90s the two have collaborated on large installations where grass grows up the side of walls and on grass coats for fashion. Naturally, grass is also the material the artists use to create giant pictures “grown” on grass canvases, including this floating island of grass, a pure rectangle of lush green suspended surreally over a Swedish lake. Since the late 90s, the pair have collaborated with scientists at the UK’s famous Institute of Grassland and Environmental Research (IGER) on a type of a grass that never fades. Talk about a hardy perennial! —CB
