Halogen lamps burn so hot, they make soup out of most design media. Luckily, Milan-based Junior Phipps chose to make his lamps from a material you don’t often find in lamps: concrete. The Lite3 is a molded concrete cube that’s more than ready for halogen’s sun-like temps, plus you can stack them in any vertical or horizontal configuration you like. It’s a way, both literally and figuratively, to instill warmth into a material that is otherwise thought of as cold and rugged. —Ian Daly
