Like some of the finest American sportswear designers of the 20th century (Geoffrey Beene comes to mind), José Ramón Réyes has a knack for merging the active with the elegant by creating runway worthy pieces that still move. “Fall ’07 is about playing with the idea of active-wear and how to incorporate it in everyday city life,” he says. “It’s an homage to the bold, sporty look of the mid-80s, re-imagined as clean modern silhouettes with an emphasis on utilitarian chic.” Réyes, a relative newcomer to the scene, developed a strong voice in the indie fashion world when he expanded his knitwear line to a full-blown womenswear collection just two years ago.
