Most of us buy lamps to shed light on a situation, but for lighting designer Peter Buning, the power of a great light is its shadow. The patterns in the frosted glass of Buning’s SHA-DO lamp don’t look like much until you turn it on, but once you do, they’re projected in a glorious 10-foot radius. Buning used digital rendering to translate the intricate designs on the cylinder (choose from eight) to the flat plane of your wall or ceiling. Think of it as beautiful wallpaper—with a power switch.—Ian Daly
