When your electrical appliances are in standby mode, they’re still sipping enough juice to account for up to 10 percent of your energy bill. So French designer Gilles Belley came up with an elegant way to remind you to turn them off. The Energy Saving Adaptor glows with soft blue LED light when a device it’s attached to has been on standby for more than three minutes. If you don’t respond, it’ll switch it off for you (motherly admonishment on wasting electricity not included). —Ian Daly
