The Austrian piano artisans at 179-year old Bösendorfer just proved that you don’t have to sacrifice tradition to push things forward. Their stunning new EDGE piano, conceived by Edelweiss Industrial Design, boils the classic instrument down to its purist form. The pedal system looks like a minimalist sculpture, and the broad legs echo the piano’s origins as a table instrument. Edelweiss even reinvented the stool, with pneumatic spring action and a profile that’s so gorgy, it can pass as a standalone high-design furniture piece. It’s a concerto for the eyes.—Ian Daly
