Based in Philadelphia, USA, Josh Owen has developed a unique ability to bury little jokes and hidden functions inside his creations. A pleasant but seemingly useless top that rolls around a table splits open at the waist to become a salt and pepper shaker conjoined by a magnet; a big, exaggerated book turns out to a piggy bank which, when filled with coins, serves usefully as a bookend; a giant knob inspired by an old guitar amp volume control becomes a dimmer switch that glows brighter as it is rotated. But perhaps the most tactile of Owen’s creations is the Knock-off lamp, a bowling pin that lights up. To turn it off, you just knock it over. Loved by kids of all ages.
