In Order to Enhance its Mobile Devices Systems Security

Dubai, UAE - 3rd February, 2014 : The Information Technology & Telecommunications Department at Abu Dhabi Police GHQ has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a global leader in digital technologies and electronic devices. The agreement will see the adoption of the latest innovations across Samsung’s technology portfolio, with the aim of raising security levels across mobile devices used by the department. Following the signing, Samsung started implementing its KNOX platform for smart devices, which provides improved safety features by isolating the device’s work space from the personal space.

Samsung KNOX currently safeguards enterprise data on Android devices, which allows the mobile device to be used as a corporate and a personal device without the risk of spreading viruses and malignant applications into the work space. The Abu Dhabi Police Information Technology & Telecommunications Department has tested the Knox platform on several electronic devices and plans to gradually deploy the platform to all members of staff of the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ.

Commenting on this, Col. Anwar Al Mulla, Head of Information Technology and Telecommunications Department at Abu Dhabi Police GHQ said, “The Information Technology & Telecommunications Department team always seeks to adopt the latest global technology to support the strategic goals of the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ. The management of the General Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police is the first homeland security organization in the world to adopt this enhanced security platform from Samsung. Several global security organizations are currently in the trial phase, however, Abu Dhabi Police GHQ is the first to deploy and implement it.”

“One of the most important current initiatives for the Information Technology & Telecommunications Department is to support the police forces’ use of smart applications on mobile devices. The aim of this initiative is to support the optimum use of resources and technology in order to provide wide services for the society and to gain the trust of the society,” he added.

Commenting on KNOX, Lt. Col. Tarek Al Hassani, Head of Technical Support Section in Information Technology & Telecommunications Department said, “KNOX allows the use of smart applications within the organization and among all its employees, ensuring a high level of security and preventing information leakage, thus protecting confidential information and data used.”

Capt. Mohammad Al Obeidli, Head of Research and Technical Resources added, “Information Technology & Telecommunications Department adopted the trial of KNOX as soon as it was announced by the police. Additionally, Information Technology & Telecommunications Department carried out extensive testing to ensure its efficiency and functioning at the required level. It will now be deployed to select users before being extended to the rest of the police force. A special committee has been created to evaluate the system and to study all of its functions and effectiveness.”

Lt. Col. Tarek Al Hassani and Capt. Mohammad Al Obeidli have met with Samsung’s KNOX team at Samsung’s offices to discuss the implementation of the system. Samsung agreed to provide full technical support to Abu Dhabi Police in relation to the implementation and development of the system in a way that suits Abu Dhabi Police use.
