Samsung receives Princess Haya Award for Special Education 2012
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, March XX, 2012 – Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies today announced that it has received the honorary Princess Haya Award for Special Education, in the Outstanding Special Needs Supporter – Private Organization category, for their continuous commitment and support to the Al Noor Training Center for Children with Special Needs.
Mr. Young Soo Kim, President of Samsung Gulf Electronics, accepted the prestigious award in the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Haya bint Al Hussein, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai at the Princess Haya Award for Special Education (PHASE) award ceremony.
Commenting on the award, Mr. Young Soo Kim, President of Samsung Gulf Electronics said, “We are absolutely honored and humbled to receive the PHASE award within the private organization segment. Samsung has always placed social contribution and social responsibility at the forefront of its values and objectives in the markets it operates in and the award that we received today is a testament to this commitment.”
Mr. Mohammad Al Emadi, Head of the Award's Executive Committee said that Princess Haya Award for Special Education recognizes exceptional efforts that support the special education sector: "The Princess Haya Award for Special Education aims at promoting excellence and improving the type of services provided to individuals with special needs, as well as highlighting the role of social work supporters from public and private sectors and acknowledging their outstanding efforts that go beyond the call of duty to support the cause and services of special needs centers."
"This year, the award of the outstanding institutional supporter in the private sector was given to Samsung Electronics for their unique and creative ideas that have a breakthrough potential to educating people with special needs via new technologies," he added.
Since December 2010, Samsung Gulf Electronics and Al Noor Training Center for Children with Special Needs have collaborated to spread awareness and raise funds to ensure the Center’s sustainability. To date, Samsung has supported Al Noor Center raising funds through Ramadan campaigns, charity raffles, auctions, and by sponsoring the annual Al Noor-Samsung Family Fun Fair.
“The Samsung Hope for Children program in the UAE is dedicated to helping the most vulnerable members of society by providing them with tools and technologies that meet the needs of children and empower them to learn, thrive and integrate better in the society. To achieve this, Samsung has provided Al Noor with digital classroom solutions along with premium products to facilitate and improve the student’s educational experience,” Mr. Kim added.
Recently, Samsung donated Galaxy Tabs and Slate PC’s to Al Noor Centre offering both students and teachers a more interactive learning and teaching experience. Samsung is also looking to develop customized applications on tablets for students to will help foster their creativity and provide a robust and enhanced form of learning.
