BYOD in Middle East on rise with 80 percent already engaging in the practice
With the advent of advanced technologies and gadgets, a new concept that is quickly gaining interest amongst employees, globally as well as regionally, is Bring Your Own Device (BYOD). According to data provided by Aruba Networks, the rate of BYOD acceptance in the Middle East is 80 percent, the highest in the Europe, Middle East and Africa market. Employees in United Arab Emirates have largely been early adopters of the BYOD trend with 64 percent already engaging in the practice as per a Fortinet survey.
Businesses are constantly striving to increase revenue and cut-down expenses. Every employee has their own working style, and finding the balance between work and life is always a challenge. BYOD endorses employees to bring their own device to their workplace, and as a result, companies can reduce IT cost while increasing flexibility for employees to be more productive. According to an A.T Kearney analysis, the BYOD approach can deliver savings of up to 22 percent, considering the software depreciation and maintenance cost.
Given the benefits of BYOD movement and the high acceptance rate in the region, the core question comes down to, what gadget should you take? Depending on the kind of work you do, there is a variety of devices available in the market. The recently launched Samsung SLATE PC Series 7 is the most suitable gadget for BYOD as it offers a unique form factor that enables maximum productivity and uncompromised mobility.
Designed for users in need of maximised productivity in a mobile working environment, the Samsung SLATE PC Series 7 is based on the Windows® 7 operating system and delivers the desired performance and productivity of a desktop PC with the usability of a tablet. Powered by an Intel® Core™ i5/i3 processor and a SuperBright Plus 11.6” HD display, the device is powerful enough to handle demanding computing programs and deliver a computing experience similar to a desktop PC. With a battery life up to 7 hours on a single charge and weighing only 860g with just 12.9m (0.5’’) thickness, this gadget ensures true portability.
With a wide variety of input methods, this tablet-notebook hybrid enables you to fully optimise your productivity. When connected to a docking station – complete with Bluetooth keyboard and mouse – the SLATE operates as a desktop PC. In case you are called for an unexpected meeting, you can easily detach the SLATE PC from the docking station and use it as a tablet. You can use the touch screen interface with your fingers or use the digitiser pen for more precision.
The device is available in choices of Intel® Core™ i3 and i5 processors. The i5 variant is ideal match for people seeking a device that can handle intensive computing and graphic-heavy programming such as Adobe Photoshop and 3D Max. However, in case you require a device for simple computing, the new Samsung SLATE Series 7 with the Intel® Core™ i3 processor and 2GB RAM is the one for you. As the device is based on the Windows OS, you can easily access files without compatibility issues allowing you to easily work on the go.
Interestingly, 56 percent of the UAE respondents viewed using their device at work as a ‘right’ rather than a ‘privilege’, according to the Fortinet survey. As employees’ attitude towards BYOD trend mature, enterprises in the UAE need to adapt their IT infrastructure while managing and creating security platforms. With the advanced devices such as the Samsung SLATE PC Series 7 available in the market, the trend is here to stay.
