Samsung DuraCool – keeping food fresher for longer

CAPE TOWN, MARCH 22nd 2012 – Samsung today announced the launch of three new refrigeration products, the DuraCool Plus fridge, DuraCool Vertical Freezer and the DuraCool Multi-fridge Freezer (MFF). These products were developed with the African consumer in mind and are differentiated locally by their ability to keep food colder for longer during Africa’s imminent power outages through - its coolpack technology – keeping food at 0 degrees for up to 3 hours after the power cuts out (conventional fridges let the temperature increase to positive within 40 minutes).

Says, Hyeongjun Seo, Regional product manager for Digital Appliances at Samsung Electronics Africa; “At Samsung we saw a gap in the market where the ability of conventional refrigeration to meet the real demands of the African continent were few and far between. It is with this in mind that we tackled this head on by developing a product range that epitomises functional design and technology – The Samsung DuraCool range – which boast a range of functions that ensure the preservation of food stuff, both fridge and frozen goods, for much longer periods from that of conventional refrigeration.”

The DuraCool range was developed with a built-in “Stabiliser Free Compressor” with voltage operating levels as low as 135 volts and as high as 290 volts, eliminating the need for a stabiliser which is used to make the fluctuating voltage maintain a stable state. Additionally, it has “Cool Pack” to keep the Freezer temperature under 0 degrees for four hours after an electrical outage as well as has interior LED lighting which provides durability and stylish illumination.

Key features pertaining to the Samsung DuraCool range includes:

Built-in stabilisers to protect the engine during power surges
Exclusive DualSensor Technology – this technology is aimed at separating the air in the fridge as well as the freezer, to ensure that food odours do not affect the other food items and reduces and maintains humidity within the unit.

Vertical freezer for optimised space
The vertical freezer, specifically, has been built to replace the horizontal freezer which is commonly used throughout so much of the African continent with the core feature of reducing the floor space by 50% from that of conventional freezers. Furthermore, both this freezer and the Multi-fridge freezer come with five drawers – which mean that consumers can keep different types of foods separate – reducing the combination of odours inside the unit.

The Multi-fridge freezer has four different temperature settings to ensure it can be used for the dual purpose of either a fridge or a freezer or even better, both – one side as a freezer and one side as a fridge. Through this innovative design and technology, consumers can adjust the temperature setting for specific food items such as storing fish or chicken to retain optimal freshness.

“We continue to strive for excellence in providing the African continent with products that are relevant and adapted for the continent and believe that this product line is no different – a product that is built for African consumers and that will inspire the future of product design and uptake locally,” concludes Seo.
