What is DLP?

Last Update date : 2011.01.16

DLP (Digital Light Processing), a technology, developed by Texas Instruments, it uses a DMD, (Digital Micro-mirror Device), constructed of microscopic mirrors. Each mirror is a pixel on the screen. When a signal is received by the DLP system, each mirror is activated or not, resulting in matrix of mirrors tilting either towards or away from the light source. This process results in different levels of light reflected by each mirror. The colours are produced when the DLP light sources run through a red, green, and blue colour filter on a moving wheel. Depending on the lightness or darkness of each mirror a myriad of colours can be reproduced.
