What Does LCD Stand For?

Last Update date : 2011.01.16

LCD is an acronym for Liquid Crystal Display.

How It Works

Basically, every LCD TV is made up of pixels. There are 3 colors that make up one pixel: red, green, and blue. Each color has a liquid crystal behind it.

The crystals are electro-reactive and can more easily be understood as window blinds. As more or less voltage is put to the crystal, it opens and closes, letting in more or less light. With millions of these "blinds" working in concert, your LCD TV produces a very high quality picture.
