With Samsung, Music Just Got Infinitely Better

Millions of tracks straight to your favourite Samsung device for as little as $9.99

SYDNEY, Australia – 6 October, 2011 – Samsung Electronics Australia today ushers in a new era in the way Australian’s listen to and access music with the launch of Samsung Music Hub. The service ‘streams’ music to up to five different Samsung devices1 for a starting monthly price that is less than the price of an average album on CD.2 Consumers no longer need to spend time downloading and transferring music from one device to another. They can now enjoy unlimited access, listen to as much music as they want, bring back old favourites or discover new music without worrying about the costs adding up from download charges per song.

“Samsung has worked closely with the major record labels to locally develop a service designed exclusively for the Australian consumer,” said Tyler McGee, Vice President of Telecommunications, Samsung Electronics Australia. “Just like digital downloads was a major advancement from CD’s about 10 years ago, Samsung Music Hub represents a revolutionary step in the way we access and consume music now and into the future using subscription streaming,” he continued. “The era of cloud services is now upon us and has opened up an ideal connection between music and devices like never before”.

Music Industry Collaborates
Samsung, the number one brand in Smartphones3 in Australia, developed Music Hub in collaboration with all four major record labels. The service has been applauded by key influencers across the Australian music industry.

“On behalf of ARIA, I welcome Samsung’s new Music Hub service into the arena of music streaming as a great way for music lovers to access music in a legitimate format which supports artists, labels and songwriters,” Dan Rosen, Chief Executive Officer, ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association).

The service was launched at a star-packed launch party hosted by James Mathison with key influencers from all sectors of Australian society. Artists from the major labels were represented with performances from Pete Murray, The Potbelleez, Faker and Zoe Badwi along with Minx and Alison Wonderland (She Can DJs). The launch is part of a multi-million dollar campaign between now and Christmas set to drive awareness across Australia.

Music Across Multiple Samsung Devices
Samsung Music Hub has been designed to complement the changing way Australian’s consume music - which increasingly sees music needing to fit in with the fast paced lifestyles of consumers, whether at home in the living room with friends or out and about by yourself; whether used by one person on one style of device or by many household members across mutiple devices. The service launches in Australia on October 17 on Samsung’s flagship GALAXY S II Smartphone, which has sold over 10 million handsets worldwide.4 By mid-December, a premium subscription will then give Australian’s access to music playlists on up to five different platforms5 including:

  •    • Samsung GALAXY Smartphones6
  •    • Samsung GALAXY Tablets7
  •    • Samsung SmartTVs8
  •    • Samsung Smart Home Theatres & Smart Blu-rays9
  •    • And via web-browser on PC’s10

Music Videos
In a first for Australia, Samsung Music Hub offers an enhanced living room experience with access to over 10,000 music videos on Samsung 2011 SmartTV’s with the premium subscription. Designed to deliver high quality, on demand content straight to the centre of the home, the service offers HD (720p) videos with an additional 40, on average, added per week. The music video’s will also be available under a subscription package for Samsung Smart Home Theatre Systems and Smart Blu-ray players.

Samsung Music Hub playlists are not stored on your device. Rather, they’re stored in ‘the cloud’ and ‘pulled’ onto your device as required, making it easy to bring together all your favourite music. Playlists can contain up to 200 songs and can be accessed anywhere within Australia (within internet service range) as they ‘Auto Sync’ across all devices with a premium authorised account.

With Samsung Music Hub’s ‘Follow Me’ feature you can listen to your favourite playlist and then login on any compatible Samsung device to pick-up where you were when you were last listening. Listen to a track on your daily commute with a GALAXY S II and then pick it up again when you arrive at home on a Samsung SmartTV.

Music Discovery
Samsung Music Hub makes it easy to find your favourite artist or discover new music with a number of intuitive features, such as:

  •    • An intelligent artist and media suggestion tool
  •    • Automatically populated music collections
  •    • In-depth discography
  •    • Extensive artists information

Smart Caching
A very special feature offered by Samsung with this service is known as ‘Smart Caching’. ‘Smart Caching’ on the Samsung GALAXY range lets consumers sync playlists over Wi-Fi so they are stored on the device and can be played continuously as long as desired without being streamed. This ensures 3G data charges can be minimised and ‘bill-burn’ can be avoided.

The service can be activated over a 3G or Wi-Fi network of your choice, Bluetooth wireless headsets are supported as well as Car Audio systems that support Bluetooth Streaming.

Samsung Music Hub will be available on the following trial offers:

  •    • Two month trial - from 17th October for all existing and new GALAXY S II Smartphone’s purchased before 31 December 2011 (downloaded application, signed up for Mobile package)
  •    • One month free trial - from 1st November for all existing and new purchases of all other GALAXY Smartphones (GALAXY Android v2.2 devices and higher) and Tablets

Pricing & Availability
Samsung Music Hub is available from 17 October and offers two subscription packages:

  •    • Mobile: Allows either a Samsung GALAXY Smartphone or Samsung GALAXY Tab to access the service - $9.99/month or six months for $54.99 or 12 months for $99.99
  •    • Premium: Allows four Samsung compatible products and web browser access to the service - $14.99/month or six months for $79.99 or 12 months for $149.99

A la carte Downloads
Whilst Samsung believes the future is all about streaming subscription services, to cater for those who simply have to download tracks, consumers can also buy and download individual tracks on Samsung Music Hub. This part of the full service will launch at a time in the near future.

Come down to the GALAXY S II pop-up-store at 379-381 George St, Sydney and experience Samsung Music Hub for yourself. The store will be open from Monday 10th October – Friday 14th October, 2011 from 8am daily. And that’s not all. The first 10 people each day to buy a Samsung Galaxy S II each can purchase it for just $2.0011 (usually RRP $849).
