SYDNEY, Australia – October 14, 2015 – Samsung Electronics Australia has today announced that the highly anticipated Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch will be available for sale at Samsung’s eStore and Experience Stores in Sydney and Melbourne, followed by wider retail availability in November 2015. The Samsung Gear S2 reflects Samsung’s commitment to developing user-centric smartwatch technology that provides great connectivity to compatible mobile devices, beautiful interfaces, and stunning design. As our fourth generation smartwatch, the Gear S2 is testament to Samsung’s commitment to developing technology that helps to meet the evolving needs of our customers.” said Prasad Gokhale, Vice President – IT & Mobile – Samsung Electronics Australia.
“We are incredibly proud to be launching the Gear S2 and know that there will be a strong appetite for the Gear S2 in this country. Australians are adopting wearable technology at an incredible rate and we believe this watch will be very popular with Australian consumers seeking an intuitive and natural smartwatch experience,” he added.

Form and function
Available in two different options – the Gear S2 and the Gear S2 classic – the Gear S2 has been designed to appeal to two distinct consumer preferences. The Gear S2 classic is tailored to users who prefer a timeless watch design, offering an elegant black finish with a matching genuine leather band. The Gear S2 is ideal for those who are on-the-go, yet require the convenience of some of the latest Samsung technology combined with a stylish, modern design.1
At just 11.4-millimeters thin, the Gear S2 brings a light and compact design to your wrist. It offers a vibrant viewing experience, featuring a 1.2-inch circular screen with a 360 x 360 resolution (302 ppi). The Gear S2 is run by Tizen OS and includes a 1.0 GHz dual core processor, which helps to make accessing apps, notifications and performing tasks near-seamless.
The Tizen software on the Gear S2 has also been designed to provide compatibility to smartphones that run on Android 4.4 and above, with a minimum of 1.5GB RAM and Bluetooth® 4.0. Gear S2 smartphone compatibility can be activated on the Galaxy and Android-powered devices via the Samsung Gear Manager app, available in Galaxy Apps or the Google Play store.3
The lifestyle functions on the Gear S2 can help encourage consumers to stay healthy and active. When connected to a compatible smartphone, the Activity Log lets users view daily activity progress and patterns at a glance. It will also duplicate reminders from a compatible smartphone to help motivate users to stay on track with their fitness goals.4
Convenience and Connectivity
The Gear S2 also offers connectivity via Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi, allowing users to stay connected even when their compatible smartphone is not in the same room as the Gear S2.5 Users can stay connected with at-a-glance notifications to check calendars, e-mails, news and can even send texts directly from their wrist when connected to a compatible device.
All of these connected features will be supported by an outstanding battery charging system, with users now able to simply place the Gear S2 on the wireless charging dock right out of the box.
Customisation and Apps
The Gear S2 reflects Samsung’s commitment to bringing increased customisation and applications to its devices. Samsung is working closely with partners to offer consumers a choice of 15 pre-loaded watch faces and eight watch bands (sold separately), so that users can have a variety of ways to express their personal style and mood. Users can easily change the band and choose a watch face which creates a personalised experience.
A variety of apps which are supported by the Gear S2’s circular user interface will be available at launch, including Nike+. Through open collaboration with developers and partners, Samsung is continuing to enrich its wearable ecosystem and provide users with a unique smart wearable experience.
