Last Update date : 2017.10.03

To use Recovery to split hard drive partitions and roll back to initial state, follow these steps:

Important: Back-up your files before running the Recovery program.

Step 1: On the Start screen, right-click on an empty space then click on All Apps on the bottom right corner of the screen.

Step 2: Under Samsung applications, select Recovery.

NOTE: If the computer does not boot to Windows, press the F4 key repeatedly right after turning ON the computer to run the Recovery program.

Step 3: In the Recovery options, choose the computer’s initial state under the Recovery Point.

Step 4: Under the Partition Settings, click the switch to turn it ON.

NOTE: If the disk is already partitioned, turn the Partition Settings to OFF so the data on the D: drive will not be deleted during the recovery process.

Step 5: Drag or click the slider to set the size of the partitions after recovery.

NOTE: If the new drive is set to maximum volume, the C: drive will have a limited space after the recovery. Make sure that there is enough space on the C: drive to run installed applications.

Step 6: Click on the Recover button, and then click on the OK button to confirm.

Step 7: The computer will restart and will ask for a confirmation to proceed with the recovery. Click on the Yes button to start.

Step 8: The Recovery will roll back the computer to its initial state. This may take several minutes.

Step 9: Once recovery is finished, click on OK to restart the computer.

Step 10: You will be asked to select the preferred display language. Select English then click on the Next button.

Step 11: Then, you will be asked to select your Country/Region, Language, and Keyboard layout, and then click on the Next button to continue.

Step 12: In the License Terms screen, tick the box to accept the license terms for using Windows, and then click the Accept button.

Step 13: Enter the desired PC name, and then click on the Next button.

Step 14: In the Settings screen, click the Use express settings button.

Step 15: Enter a Username in the Sign in to your PC screen, and then click on the Finish button.

NOTE: You can create a username with or without a password and password hint.

Step 16: The computer will restart once more. You can see that the computer was restored to its factory default settings, but with a new drive (D: drive) that can be accessed through the File Explorer.
