Washing machine does not fill with water (NF or 4E error code)

If the washing machine is not filling up with enough water, the 4E or NF (No Fill) error code will be displayed. Please note, this article is only relevant to washing machines that displays NF error code (All front loaders and certain top loaders). In most cases, this issue is related to one of the following:

 

    Ensure that the door is tightly closed.

 

    Ensure the washer is plugged in and powered on. If it does not power on, check the fuse and/or reset the circuit breaker (in the home's electrical panel).

 

    Verify the debris filter is not clogged. To clean the debris filter, follow the steps given below:

 

 

Note: Top Loader washing machines do not have external debris filter access. Also some washing machine may have different filter access than shown on the screenshots below.

 

Warning: If you're running a cycle with hot water temperature settings, the water in the washer may be very hot. Allow enough time for the water to cool down before performing this procedure to avoid possible injury. Unplug the machine before performing any of the steps below.

 

Step 1: Open the debris filter access cover by pressing down on the tab and pulling/folding the cover down. If the debris filter cover does not have a tab, open the debris filter access cover by inserting a coin or a key into the slot above the access panel and gently prying it open.

Step 2: Locate the black rubber drain hose (or emergency drain hose), and if attached, release it from its holder.

Step 3: Place a towel on the floor to prevent water damage to the floor as well.

 

Step 4: Remove the white drain plug from the emergency drain hose, and then drain the water in a suitable container.

Step 5: After water stops draining from the auxiliary drain hose, remove the debris filter by turning it counter clockwise and pulling it out.

Step 6: Inspect and clean the filter, and then reinstall by pushing it in and turning it clockwise until secured.

Step 7: Reinstall the emergency drain hose cap and secure the hose in its holder.

Step 8: Reinstall the access panel by placing it into the holes at the bottom of the access panel opening and pushing/folding it into the top.

    Verify that flood safe/check hoses are not installed. If flood safe hoses are installed, replace with standard supply hoses.

 

Note: Stainless Steel braided hoses are recommended

●  Verify the inlet hose filters, at the back of the washing machine, are clean.

 

Warning: Shut off the hot & cold water supply before cleaning the inlet hose filters. Take extra care when removing the HOT water connection to avoid possible injury.

    Verify the hot and cold water supply hoses are not kinked, and both water supply valves are completely open.

Important:

 

    Water pressure at home must be between 205 kPa and 830 kPa for the unit to operate properly.

 

    When only cold water is connected to the washer, a splitter must be used to ensure that both of the washer's inlet supply valves are supplied with water.

    Verify the drain hose is not inserted too far into the home's drain pipe forming a vacuum or syphon. The pressure formed from the vacuum can cause the pressure sensor to "think" the tub has reached the correct water level. When that happens the water valves close, preventing anymore water from entering the unit.

Reminder:

 

If the laundry is wet at the end of the cycle, the unit is operating normally. Samsung washers use 48 litres of water per cycle (compared to conventional top loaders which can use around 170 litres). 48 litres is the total amount of water used throughout an entire wash cycle. The initial fill does not add 48 litres. During the initial fill, the machine may not appear to have enough water, but this is normal. Your washer adds water after the initial fill to properly mix the detergent.
