Test the Ice Maker of your Samsung Refrigerator

When you first install your refrigerator, you can test your ice maker first to double check it's status before operating for first-time use. Depending on the refrigerator model that you have, the location of the ice maker will vary. Please follow the guide below to see the locations of the ice maker and its test button.

Note: The overall design and/or accessories may differ with the model. Please refer to your user manual for the design specific to your refrigerator.

1 Press the Test button on the side of the ice maker. You will hear a chime when you press the button.
2 You will hear another chime if the ice maker is operating properly.
3 If you don't hear a chime and there is no movement from the ice maker, unplug the fridge or turn it off at the power outlet for 2 minutes, then power it back up and try again.

Note:

  • Do not press Test repeatedly after the ice bucket is filled with ice or water. Water may overflow or ice may jam.
  • If you don't hear a chime, but you can see movement from the ice maker, then the ice maker was reset. 
1 Gently hold the ice maker bucket (B) with both hands and remove it from the ice chute (A).

2 Check the ice maker bucket and see if it contains ice as appropriate.
3 Press the Test button (C) on the bottom of the ice maker.
4 You will hear a chime if the ice maker operates properly.
5 If you don't hear a chime and there is no movement from the ice maker, unplug the fridge or turn it off at the power outlet for 2 minutes, then power it back up and try again.

Note:

  • Do not press Test repeatedly after the ice bucket is filled with ice or water. Water may overflow or ice may jam.
  • If you don't hear a chime, but you can see movement from the ice maker, then the ice maker was reset. 
1 Press the Test button on the back of the ice maker (under the vent, above the ice bucket). You will hear a chime when you press the button. You will hear another chime if the ice maker is operating properly.
2 The two ice buckets have different buttons, they will need to be tested separately.
3 If you don't hear a chime and there is no movement from the ice maker, unplug the fridge or turn it off at the power outlet for 2 minutes, then power it back up and try again.

Note:

  • Do not press Test repeatedly after the ice bucket is filled with ice or water. Water may overflow or ice may jam.
  • If you don't hear a chime, but you can see movement from the ice maker, then the ice maker was reset. 
1 Open the freezer door, and slide open the ice tray.
2 Fill the tray with water up to the maximum level (A) marked on the inner rear of the tray.

3 Slide the tray back into position.
4 To dispense the ice cubes, turn the handle of the bin to the right to empty half of the ice cubes into the bin. Then, turn it to the left to empty the other half.

Note:

  • Make sure the ice cube storage bin is in place under the tray.
  • Take out the bin by slightly twisting and pulling to the front.
1 Remove the ice bucket, and press the Test button (A) on bottom of the ice maker to check if the ice maker operates and supplies water for the ice tray normally.
2 You will hear a chime if the ice maker is operating properly.
3 If you don't hear a chime and there is no movement from the ice maker, unplug the fridge or turn it off at the power outlet for 2 minutes, then power it back up and try again.

  • If you don't hear a chime, but you can see movement from the ice maker, then the ice maker was reset.

1 Remove the ice bucket and press the Test button (A) to check if the auto ice maker is operating properly.
2 If you don't hear a chime and there is no movement from the ice maker, unplug the fridge or turn it off at the power outlet for 2 minutes, then power it back up and try again.

Note:

  • Do not press Test repeatedly after the ice bucket is filled with ice or water. Water may overflow or ice may jam.
  • If you don't hear a chime, but you can see movement from the ice maker, then the ice maker was reset. 

Please be advised that after installing your refrigerator and using the ice maker for the first time you should:

1. Let the refrigerator operate for at least 24 hours to ensure optimal performance.

2. Dispense the first 4 to 6 ice cubes into a glass. 

3. Wait another 8 hours and dispense another 4 to 6 ice cubes.

4. Then, wait another 16 hours and dispense the first glass-full of ice.
