In an industry first, Samsung launches industry leading 3D Video-On-Demand (VOD) service for owners of Samsung SMART TVs

SYDNEY, Australia - June 1, 2011 – Following the official launch of the industry’s first free 3D Video-On-Demand (VOD) service in Korea earlier this year, Samsung Electronics, a global leader in digital media and convergence technologies, is excited to announce that it will extend its free 3D VOD service to Australia.

"Brad Wright, National Sales and Product Marketing Manager for Audio Visual, Samsung Electronics Australia, said: “Samsung is committed to delivering the very best in interactive content at the touch of a button. The launch of this free 3D VOD service adds to the variety of content already available and strengthens our commitment to Australian consumers in delivering the very best immersive entertainment experience."

From 30 June 2011, the 3D VOD service will be available on selected 2011 Samsung SMART TVs in Australia. Existing and new owners of Samsung SMART TVs will be able to access the 3D VOD content at no additional cost by downloading the 'Explore 3D' application available on Samsung Apps. During its initial stages at launch, approximately 30 3D clips will be made available from June. Samsung expects to increase the free 3D VOD content clips to 100 by the end of 2011.

As a start, the 3D content on offer will include movie trailers, music videos, children’s classics, as well as lifestyle videos and documentaries. Children’s classics on offer include Pinocchio, The Ugly Duckling, Aladdin and the Magic Lamp, Puss in Boots. Lifestyle videos include Mercedes Benz Classic Collection, Takeoff-Macau, The Enchanted Hill: Inside Hearst Castle, plus documentaries such as Grand Canyon Adventure, Dinosaurs of Patagonia, Dinosaurs Alive, Wild Ocean, Mummies, Ultimate Wave Tahiti, Ultimate Gs, Legends of Flight, will be made available through the service.

As part of Samsung’s collaboration with Dreamworks, the service will feature exclusive 3D movie trailers from How To Train Your Dragon, Shrek 4, Megamind, Kung Fu Panda 2 and Crisis II as well as select music videos.

The introduction of the free 3D VOD service is in line with Samsung’s continued commitment to grow its rich content offering through international and local partnerships. A market leader in 3D TV, the elegant yet functional design of Samsung’s SMART TV is matched by intuitive user experiences and content driven by apps and services made specifically for TV. Samsung’s use of Active 3D technology provides the best and brightest picture quality in Full HD, enhanced motion clarity and freedom in choice of viewing angles for a truly immersive 3D experience.
