Samsung Electronics Canada Releases Important Software Update to Ensure Emergency Services Connectivity on R330 Flip Cover Mobile Phones

MISSISSAUGA, ON – August 16, 2013 – Samsung Electronics Canada today announced an important software update for Samsung R330 flip cover (SCH-R330) mobile phones sold through Bell, PC Mobile and Solo Mobile from January 2010 through July 2011. The free software update is now available and should be installed immediately to address an issue with a faulty image and to ensure customers are able to connect to emergency services.

Although not all R330 flip cover phones are affected, those that are affected may be unable to connect to emergency services. Affected R330 flip cover phones may still be capable of dialling other telephone numbers when connected to a mobile phone network. It is important that all R330 customers in Canada install the software update immediately as a precautionary measure.

The Samsung R330 flip cover mobile device is the only phone manufactured by Samsung requiring this important update and is limited to Canadian customers. No other Samsung wireless phones or software versions are affected and the issue is not related to wireless service.

Customers who own a Samsung R330 flip cover (SCH-R330) mobile device will receive a text message from Bell advising them of the issue. Customers can also confirm if they own one of the affected phones by looking for the “SCH-R330” model number printed on a sticker on the device behind the battery.

A software update notification is currently being sent directly to devices. To install, customers should:

    1. Select Tools from the main menu

    2. Select Update phone

    3. Select Update firmware

    4. Follow the on-screen prompts.
