Tuesday, November 6, 2012 – The Tou.tv application is now a menu option on Samsung Smart TVs, as part of an agreement between Radio-Canada and Samsung Canada, the world’s largest connected TV manufacturer.
Canadians will now have access to over 2000 hours of free French-language programming, including drama, documentary, comedy, and classic TV content, as well as web-only series, all searchable by title or genre.
For Jean Mongeau, executive director of Radio-Canada’s Revenue Group, the partnership is perfectly aligned with the public broadcaster’s Strategy 2015: “Radio-Canada’s relevance is intrinsically linked to our ability to deliver our entire range of content to Canadians, whenever, wherever and however they want it. We continue to evolve in step with our audiences. This joint initiative with Samsung will help us raise Tou.tv’s profile, while also further cementing the public broadcaster’s position in a rapidly shifting market.”
“Samsung Canada is excited to offer a more localized and relevant SMART TV experience to our Quebec customers” said Philippe Lozier, Director, Business Solutions Group, Samsung Canada. “Providing regional content to the Quebec market is important for Samsung, and the Tou.tv application is the only streaming VoD service that is dedicated to this audience.”
First launched in January 2010 by Radio-Canada, the Tou.tv French-language Web TV service provides access to programs airing on Télévision de Radio-Canada, RDI, and ARTV, plus content from some twenty other partner producers and broadcasters in Canada and Europe. In addition to serving up quality TV programming viewers can watch for the first time or in catchup mode, Tou.tv is a catalyst for homegrown production of web-only series, encouraging local creators to successfully invest in this new platform as well.
