MISSISSAUGA, ON, March 4, 2010 -
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the Worldwide Olympic Partner for Wireless Communications Equipment, today announced the Canadian winners of its Samsung Mobile Explorers contest. The “High Five Canada” Mobile Explorer team of Derek Smith and Elise Goodhoofd, who hail from Ottawa, beat out four other young Canadian mobile explorer teams by blogging, blogging and capturing the overall spirit in Vancouver throughout the 17 days of the Olympic Games
. Smith and Goodhoofd were awarded the $ 10000 Grand Prize by a panel of Samsung judges who proclaimed their content to be the most original, creative and enthusiastic over the course of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
The Mobile Explorers, who traveled to Vancouver from New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia, posted their daily videos, pictures and blogs at www.samsung.com/mobileexplorers
“How fitting that the contest was part of Samsung’s overarching Vancouver 2010 theme, ‘Discover your every WOW moment’ as the content of our winners, Derek and Elise, and that of our other Mobile Explorer teams wowed us at every moment of this remarkable Olympic Games,” said Benjamin Lee, President and CEO, Samsung Electronics Canada. “They all captured the varied and unique spirit that galvanized this great city and shared it with Canadians from coast-to-coast-to-coast.”
“This has truly been a once-in-a-lifetime and unforgettable experience for Derek and I these last three weeks in Vancouver. We scoured the entire city from inspirational Canadian team hockey games to rubbing shoulders with people from around the world in Robson Square - to tell stories to other Canadians about the spirit of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games using our Samsung mobile devices,” said Goodhoofd. “What a display of spirit in Vancouver, it was totally awesome.”
All Mobile Explorers were flown to Vancouver and provided with accommodation for 20 nights, meals and Samsung’s Omnia II touchscreen smartphone – the Official Mobile Phone
of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games – to capture and share the Olympic Games’ WOW moments. Outfitted in bright yellow uniforms, the Explorers covered a number of activities, including Olympic Games
events, activities at OR@S (Samsung’s two-story, 7500-square-foot pavilion at the Olympic Games), a long-house experience at one of the Four Host First Nations communities and other daily activities in Vancouver and Whistler.
