Wireless charging is especially useful when you are on the go, and of course when you don’t have time to put down your things to dig through the tangle of cables and connectors in search of the charging cable on your desk.
Samsung first introduced this technology with its wireless charging smartphone covers that included receiver coils to create a magnetic field for wireless charging. The Galaxy S6 and S6 edge now make it even easier with the coils built directly into the devices, eliminating the need for a separate cover.
Adding wireless charging technology usually means that with all the coils, you end up with a thicker device. At 6.8 mm for S6 and 7.0 mm for S6 edge, however, these are extremely thin devices. By compressing the hybrid stack of two different magnetic shield sheets, the wireless technology inside the devices all add up to less than 0.3mm. This includes wireless charging flexible PCB coil, the magnetic shield, and the heat spreading sheet.
While most devices support only one wireless charging standard, the Galaxy S6 and the S6 edge are Samsung's first smartphones to support universal wireless charging. The wireless charging technology in the Galaxy S6 and the S6 edge is certified by both WPC (Wireless Power Consortium) and PMA (Power Matters Alliance).
Your S6 will work with most of the wireless charging platforms you find at airports, cafes, or in wireless charging furniture. Since you do not have to change settings or install additional software to use either standard, wireless charging becomes even more seamless.

The Galaxy S6 and S6 edge also come with Samsung’s new wireless charger that is not only optimized for the new devices, but also supports other WPC-certified devices.
The chargers come in black and white, and have a clean, glossy look to go with the new metal-and-glass design of the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge. The wireless charger also has an LED notification feature to reveal charging status: green for fully charged, cyan for charging in process. This intuitive feature lets you quickly gauge how much battery you have left when you have your phone charging wirelessly on the bedside table.
Smartphones are such a natural part of our lives that charging should also be less of a hassle. The embedded wireless charging technology on the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge takes away your cable hassles while also giving you an aesthetically pleasing, seamless charging experience.
