Why Are The Temperature Bars Blinking On The RS261MD?

Last Update date : 2016.03.24

RS261MD Temperature Bars

A blinking temperature display usually indicates one of the following:

    • Cooling Off/Demo Mode (the temperature display lines scroll up and down)

    • ;Rising temperature in the refrigerator caused by the doors being left open, power outages, blocked vents, etc.

    • A failure of the cooling system or a failure in the defrost circuitry, which requires service.

To determine and/or resolve the issue, verify the following:

1. Verify that none of the vents on the back interior walls of the fridge and freezer compartments are blocked.

2. Verify that the doors were not left open or have not been opened more frequently than usual. Keep the doors closed for 2 to 3 hours. If the blinking stops, that was the issue.

Note: Also be sure to close shades or blinds to block direct sunlight through a nearby window.

3. Verify that there has not been a power outage. If the blinking started after a power outage, but the unit is still cooling properly, unplug it for 60 seconds and plug it back in. If the blinking stops within 1 minute of plugging it back in, there is no problem. If the blinking continues, service is required.

If you have verified/performed all of the items above and the blinking continues, service is required. To set up an online service request, click here.
