Last Update date : 2014.10.08

In Windows 8.1 you can set your computer to load directly to the desktop, when turned on, instead of to the Start Screen. To set your computer to boot to the desktop, follow the steps below:

1. Go to the desktop.

2. Gently press and hold on an empty space in the taskbar for three seconds and then release. (Usually located at the bottom of the desktop screen.)

3. Tap on Properties.

4. Tap on the Navigation tab.

5. Check the box next to 'When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start'.

6. Tap Apply and then OK.
