How do I configure the power saving modes on my Samsung Galaxy Tab® S 8.4?

Power Saving Mode


Power-saving modes help your device conserve battery power. From the Home screen, touch Apps 1 > Settings 1 > Power saving 1 . Choose between Power saving mode and Ultra power saving mode.

Power Saving Mode


Power saving mode limits performance to conserve battery power. Touch Power saving mode and touch the slider to  1 turn Power saving mode on 1.

Restrict background data: Reduce background data usage to conserve battery power. Some applications will still use the data connection.

Restrict performance: Touch the slider 1 to turn Restrict performance on 1 . Mark the checkboxes next to the features you want to use.

    • CPU performance: Limit the maximum performance of the CPU to conserve battery power.

    • Screen output: Use a lower frame rate and power level for your device's screen.

    • Turn off touch key light: The Recent 1 and Back 1 buttons on the front of your device will not light up when they are touched or when the Home key 1 is pressed.

    • Turn off GPS: Turn off location services and GPS functions.

Grayscale mode: Convert color screens to battery-friendly grayscale. Touch the slider 1 to turn Grayscale mode on 1 .

Ultra Power Saving Mode


Use Ultra power saving mode to switch your device's screen to grayscale and shut off nonessential applications so you get the maximum battery life. With Ultra power saving mode turned on, even if you're down to a 10% charge, you can still receive calls and texts for up to 24 hours.

Touch Ultra power saving mode and touch the slider 1 to turn Ultra power saving mode on 1 . Mark the checkbox to agree to the Terms and conditions and touch OK. Review the changes Ultra power saving mode will make to your device, and then touch OK to turn on the feature.

The Google Chrome™, Calendar, and Clock applications are automatically available in Ultra power saving mode. Touch 1to make up to six more applications available.

To adjust Network Connections, Sound, and Display settings in Ultra power saving mode, touch More options1 > Settings.

To turn off Ultra power saving mode, touch More options1> Turn off Ultra power saving mode > OK.

NOTE: Based on laboratory testing. Battery power consumption depends on factors such as network configuration, wireless service provider, signal strength, operating temperature, features selected, vibrate mode, backlight settings, browser use, frequency of calls and voice, data, and other applications' usage patterns.

Power Saving Tips


Your device provides options that help you conserve battery power. By customizing these options and turning off features in the background, you can use your device longer between charges:

    • Turn off the Bluetooth® feature.

    • Turn off Wi-Fi®.

    • Turn off the GPS service.

    • Turn off the mobile data connection.

    • Turn off auto-syncing of accounts.

    • Turn off Smart stay and Smart Pause™.

    • Discontinue use of Live wallpapers.

    • Decrease the backlight time (timeout settings).

    • Decrease the brightness of the display, or use Automatic brightness.
