I Have A Cable Box And VCR Connected To The Television, Utilizing Only The RF Connections. When I Play A VHS Tape, Or Change Channels Through The VCR, The Picture Quality Is Not So Good.

Last Update date : 2012.03.16

From the description of your problem, it seems you have your cable box, VCR, and television connected in the following order: cable box to VCR to TV

A diagram of the cable box to VCR to TV cable set-up is below:

With this setup, you can only change channels through the cable box. If you try to change channels through your VCR, the channels you tune to will not come in clearly or not come in at all.

On the other hand, you should be able to get a high quality picture when you play a VHS tape. To get a high quality picture when you play a VHS tape, follow these steps.

  1. Set your VCR output to channel 3 or channel 4 using the CH (channel) switch on the back of the VCR. The channel you select should be the output channel of the cable box.
  2. Tune the TV to channel 3 or channel 4. The channel you select for the TV should be the same channel you selected for VCR output in Step 1.
  3. Use your VCR remote control or the channel controls on your VCR's front panel to tune your VCR  to channel 3 or channel 4. The channel you select should be the output channel of the cable box.
