Windows® Vista represents a new era in computing platforms because of the unprecedented degree to which the operating environment can exploit today's most advanced memory, storage and display technologies to deliver what Microsoft has called "a breakthrough user experience." According to many industry watchers, Microsoft's new operating system is the most important version of Windows® to be launched in more than a decade.
Following is a list of Windows® Vista's key features and the Samsung components that support them.

This feature uses an intelligent prioritisation scheme that understands which applications are used most often and identifies which applications are likely to be used at different times.
PC response time is reduced with SuperFetch, which proactively places frequently used information into the fastest available memory – including optional memory resources based on NAND flash.
SuperFetch takes advantage of more installed memory. A feature-rich environment like Windows® Vista calls for today's most advanced main memory technology:
- DDR2 SDRAM delivers the highest bandwidth, greatest density, lower power consumption and better thermal characteristics than previous generations of SDRAM.
- Tomorrow's main memory standard, Samsung DDR3, continues the performance increases and architectural improvements seen in the preceding generations of advanced computer memory.

ReadyBoost™ Utilizes NAND Flash Storage
This new feature enables Windows® Vista to work with a high-speed USB flash drive – which must be single level cell - to supplement the amount of memory available to SuperFetch. Some of the benefits of this storage device include:
- It can be removed at any time without losing data
- It can store other files
- Data is encrypted so it's not accessible to other PCs
Any SuperFetch data stored on the memory stick will be encrypted so that it's not accessible if the device is used in another computer.

Using our Flash Solid-State Drive (SSD) offers some additional hot benefits
- 0.2ms random access (vs >10ms with the fastest HDD)
- Just replacing an HDD by SSD extends battery lifetime of a notebook by 10-20%
- Virtually no heat generation

ReadyDrive™ Hybrid Hard Drive
Developed by Microsoft and Samsung, this award-winning new product combines the best of magnetic and non-volatile memory technologies to boost performance while significantly improving system reliability.
Some of the benefits include:
- Longer battery life
- Faster boot & resume times
- Fastest Windows® HotStart™ experiences

Windows® Aero™ User Interface
Representing a major leap forward in visual sophistication, the new 3D Aero and higherend Aero Glass UIs feature a transparent, glass-like interface.
Windows® Vista systems with greater graphics capabilities can deploy Aero Glass, in which elements of the windows are translucent and dialog boxes open in an expanding fashion, starting off small and growing larger as if approaching the screen.
The full Aero Glass experience calls for more advanced graphics and a high-resolution display in order for users to see the smooth movement, transparency and 3D effects, which include features for the increasingly popular widescreen displays.
DRAM Samsung has the largest product line of unbuffered, registered and SODIMM modules, including the DDR2 solutions being recommended for Windows® Vista main memory.
Samsung DDR2 DIMMs are available in densities from 256 megabytes to 4 gigabytes at speeds from 400-800MHz. Recommended for Windows® Vista: 2 gigabytes to experience all its features.
NAND Flash Samsung is the world leader in NAND flash, producing more than half of the industry's output. For the first time, Windows® Vista enables flash to enhance the PC experience as seen in removable storage using ReadyBoost technology and the Hybrid Hard Drive enhanced with ReadyDrive.
Samsung introduces a 2.5-inch Hybrid Hard Drive that includes a 256-megabyte OneNAND™ Flash cache in time for the release of Windows® Vista.
Solid-State Drive (SSD) Samsung's Solid-State Drive (SSD) is an advanced NAND flash-based replacement for traditional hard disk drives, leveraging the company's longtime leadership in memory technology.
This next-generation solution offers several advantages over rotating magnetic media such as significantly lower power consumption, remarkable ruggedness, high reliability, less weight and outstanding performance.
GDDR3 Graphics Memory Samsung leads the graphics memory market, with its high-bandwidth, high-density memory found in the majority of today's external graphics cards. To optimally display Aero Glass, an external card is recommended for Windows® Vista PCs.
Samsung GDDR3 is available in densities up to 512 megabytes, in speeds up to 1GHz and offering peak bandwidth of 8 gigabytes per second.
Recommended for Windows® Vista: A 128-256 megabyte external graphics card powered by 500-700MHz GDDR3 graphics memory.
High-Resolution Displays Samsung is a leading TFT-LCD panel supplier and the largest producer of widescreen displays. Its large product line benefits from ongoing technology advancements to improve resolution, reduce power consumption and increase reliability.
Samsung's LCD line already supports Windows® Vista, as seen in a broad selection of 12 to 19-inch screens with high resolutions and high pixel densities.
Recommended for Windows® Vista: Displays with 120-200 ppi, at least 8-bit color. For an optimal experience: wide aspect ratios of 16:9 or 16:10, 10 to12-bit color and higher resolution.
We've looking forward to your call on how we can grow your Windows® Vista related PC and Notebook business!
