MARCH 02, 2012
With the growing popularity of mobile devices and cloud storage systems, there’s really little reason to go anywhere without your favorite music, books and TV shows. Thanks to a collaboration between Samsung, Flixster and Rovi, this now also applies to your DVD collections.
Samsung has announced that it will provide a new service on its 2012 Smart Blu-ray players called Disc to Digital. The service allows you to create digital copies of your DVD collections and add those copies to your personal movie library in the UltraViolet™ Cloud. You can then access your digital library through the Flixster app on Samsung’s Smart Hub and through a wide range of mobile and portable devices, including iPhones, iPads, Android-based devices and Macs and PCs.

In addition to giving you the flexibility and convenience of enjoying your movie collection anywhere you want, this service makes it easy to share the movies in your UltraViolet library with other members of your Disc to Digital account. The service even lets different members of your account watch the same movie at the same time from different locations.
Samsung is offering the Disc to Digital service at only a nominal cost for each movie that is added to your library. You can also choose to upgrade your standard definition movies for an additional small fee if high-definition versions are available.
The Flixster app and the Disc to Digital service will be available on 2012 Samsung Blu-ray players and Smart TVs later this year*.
*The Disc to Digital service will only be available in the United States and is limited to DVD titles that have already been sold.
