Auto Backup
Samsung Auto Backup software is improved user convenience by supporting two modes.
- Real-time mode
When file or folder is modified or added to it, the corresponding folder or file is backed up in real time.
- Scheduled mode
This type can be regularly executed back-up function as only designated date and time.
Note
Backup means storing data safely on storage devices such as hard disks.
A. Connecting the Samsung external hard disc to the PC prompts the following display.
B. Select “Install Samsung Auto Backup“, and begin to install Samsung Auto Backup.
C. The initial Screen of the InstallShield Wizard appears after the initial stages have been processed.
D. In the next screen, select Install Samsung Auto Backup.
E. Click “Next” to proceed to the next screen.
F. The end user license agreement screen will appear. Read this agreement carefully. If you agree to the terms and conditions of the user agreement, click “Yes”.
G. A screen will appear asking you to select a folder to install Samsung Auto Backup. Browse to a folder and click “Next”.
H. A screen will appear asking you to select a program folder for Samsung Auto Backup. Select a program folder to add the Samsung Auto Backup icon to and click “Next”.
I. A screen will appear displaying the installation’s progress.
J. When installation is complete, a screen will appear asking you to reboot the system now or later. After making a selection, click “Finish” to complete the installation.
You first need to set your backup settings before using Samsung Auto Backup. By adjusting these settings, you can manage your backed up data more efficiently. The Backup Settings Wizard guides you through several procedures, including how to set the backup destination, the process options, file filter, and schedule.
When you reboot the system after installation, the Setup Wizard is executed automatically.
After setting the backup settings, you need to specify a backup source to perform the backup.
A. On the backup destination screen, select the backup device. Then, click “Next” to specify the path to where the backed up data should be stored.
Note
On the backup destination screen, you can choose the Samsung external hard disk that is connected. If the Samsung external hard disk is not connected, you cannot choose the backup destination.
B. From this window you can specify various backup options such as whether to compress the files, whether to store a backup history, and whether to close the backup window after finishing the backup process.
C. From this window you can set the file types you want to back up.
- You can choose the File Filter using the file grouping and extension. For file grouping, you can define new file groupings other than the predefined file groupings.
- If you don’t set this option and click the “Next” button, all files will be backed up from your backup source.
A. This option allows you to set a time at which to start the backup process.
B. Click “Add” to set a new schedule.
Once you’ve made all your choices, click “Finish” to close the Backup Settings Wizard. Now, you are ready to start the backup process.
Note
A program runs to show you information about the backup device, including used space and backup space, after the initial setting process.
- Taskbar Icon Screen
The red bar in the above icon indicates the used space in the device, and the green bar indicates the available space in the device.
You can see detailed information about the device’s space if you double-click the icon.
The above screen shows details of the used space and available space in the backup device.
It displays total disc volume, used space, backup space, and available space.
You can perform backup by pressing the “Backup” button on the tool bar or by selecting “Backup” from the Task menu. The following procedure is followed for backup.
A. Select the backup source to back up. Select the folders or files to back up in the source selection window.
B. Select “Task” -> “Backup” from the menu bar, or click the “Backup” button on the icon bar.
Note
When the backup was not successful due to backup device access failure while the backup engine is running, the backup automatically runs again next time the backup device is connected.
