Samsung brings advanced interactivity to classrooms around the world

Seoul, US—September 28, 2012Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, is taking interactivity in the classroom to a new level with the launch of its Samsung Smart School solution, a one-to-one learning platform that will empower teachers around the world to deliver an interactive learning environment.

The first Global Flagship Classroom (GFC) school to receive the Samsung Smart School solution will be Geeter Middle School in Memphis, Tennessee, USA. The pilot will demonstrate the potential of the platform that harnesses the latest Samsung technologies including the new GALAXY Note 10.1 tablet and Samsung’s Large Format Displays (LFD) with Touch Overlay.

The Samsung Smart School solution includes keyboard docks, AllShare Cast and charging carts, as well as the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1”. It will be deployed at selected schools in 27 countries in Europe, Middle East, South America, North America, Africa, Asia and Oceania.

With this project, Samsung will give students a more advanced learning experience at school. Schools will offer better-rounded education through advanced technologies and an enhanced infrastructure.

“As well as being an eco-friendly approach to learning, the Samsung Smart School solution is a great opportunity to equip schools with the latest enhanced learning tools - tools that are bound to be the future of technology. Generation Y were born with smartphones in hand, so equipping them with technology in the classroom is the logical next step,” said BumCoo Cho, SVP, Enterprise Business Team, Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics.

Samsung’s Smart School solution is optimized for the GALAXY Note 10.1, Samsung’s latest Android-powered tablet device featuring the advanced S Pen technology. Samsung’s S Pen provides the functionality and precision of a pen and paper on the tablet’s 10.1-inch display, opening up new opportunities for digital learning. Students access the solution through WiFi with a single convenient log-in, while teachers can instruct the class using an interactive whiteboard display, TV or any projection device wirelessly controlled by a tablet or PC.

For the Memphis pilot, Samsung Electronics America is providing the 6th grade math class in the Geeter Middle School of Memphis City Schools with a solution including 36 GALAXY Note 10.1 units, a 65-inch LFD with Touch Overlay option and a wireless printer. The Samsung Smart School solution provides teachers with the ability to lead interactive lessons and real-time group activities through an intuitive touchscreen and content sharing features. Learning management tools also enable students to access course materials and information as well as school notices and forums through their tablets.

“Partnering with GFC Schools on our Smart School Solution Pilot Program represents an important part of our continued effort to deliver the classroom of the future,” continued BumCoo Cho. “This innovative solution frees educators from the confines of standing at a chalkboard or projector and allows them to move about the classroom, conducting interactive lessons and activities through their touch screen tablet or notebook computer. We’re confident GFC School instructors will find it to be a powerful and effective platform for engaging students, elevating learning, and fostering a truly interactive classroom learning environment.”
