Industrial Cooperation
Other External CooperationSAMSUNG Electronics' Semiconductor Division participates in research and development activities for environmentally friendly semiconductor manufacturing procedures. The Division also conducts research to reduce water and energy consumption in its manufacturing in cooperation with SEMATECH, a research consortium, and ISMI (International SEMATECH Manufacturing Initiative).
More than 50% of the energy used in semiconductor manufacturing is consumed by semiconductor manufacturing equipment. This is why cooperation with semiconductor manufacturing equipment makers is required for significant energy savings in semiconductor manufacturing procedures. SAMSUNG Electronics' Semiconductor Division participates in industrial activities for energy savings and equipment standardization in cooperation with SEMI, the association for semiconductor equipment materials.
The semiconductor industry needs long-term research and development to enable greater efficiency in procedures and new products. It is necessary to review and resolve the environmental impacts of new substances and procedures from the R&D stage onward in order to develop more environmentally friendly semiconductor manufacturing procedures. SAMSUNG Electronics' Semiconductor Division reviews environmental impacts starting at the R&D stage in cooperation with SRC-ERC (Semiconductor Research Corporation's Engineering Research Center).
