ESH Policy
SAMSUNG Electronics' Semiconductor Division is heavily involved in the following initiatives : implementing greening of management, products, procedures, workplaces, and local communities by practicing focused green management and placing a high degree of importance on health, safety and the environment. As declared in our environmental safety policy, SAMSUNG Electronics' Semiconductor Division perceives health, safety and the environment as key focuses of corporate management. We regularly conduct environmentally-sensitive activities based on this policy in order to keep the earth cleaner.
The Semiconductor Business of SAMSUNG Electronics is developing and manufacturing semiconductor devices, storages and optical media. We give our best efforts to preserve the global environment and maintain accident-free operations. To do this, we have adopted health, safety and environmental management as a key component of our business operations, in accordance with our "Green Management Philosophy" that respects human beings and nature. In this philosophy :
- We establish more stringent corporate standards than all international and domestic ESH laws and regulations, so that we can minimize pollutants and associated risks, and thus be in a better position to prevent ESH-related incidents.
- We assess ESH impacts arising from our business activities, products and services, seek to continually improve our performance, and periodically make public our track record.
- We purchase raw materials, parts and packaging materials that do not contain hazardous substances, such as halogen flame retardants, CFCs and PFOSs as well as cadmium, lead, hexavalent chromium, mercury, PBBs, and PBDEs, to provide our customers with environmentally friendly products that take into account ESH impacts at the consumption and disposal stages.
- We continue to reduce environmental impacts by introducing clean technology that minimizes the use of chemicals, energy and water, and by promoting waste reuse and recycling.
- We contribute to the prevention of global warming by minimizing the emission of greenhouse gases including PFCs, and by reducing energy consumption.
- We advocate safe and comfortable workplaces and early disease prevention measures that support the good physical and mental health of our employees and help to minimize workplace hazards.
- We maintain emergency preparedness, response and recovery systems to prevent potential hazards, such as power outages, natural disasters, fires etc., from impacting the health and safety of employees and the workplace environment, as well as the smooth flow of business operations. In addition, we actively respond to emergency situations in our local communities.
- We cooperate with suppliers and contractors in sharing ESH regulatory information, developing technologies for regulatory compliance, and building effective ESH management systems. Moreover, we strive to improve our ESH efforts continually.
- We review ESH policy periodically, and provide all employees with training to understand and implement ESH management systems and policies, and disclose our policy to internal and external stakeholders.
