Our new Heterogeneous Multi-Processing (HMP) solution for the Exynos 5 Octa allows us to achieve maximum Octa-core performance with energy efficiency. To illustrate how this technology works, we've collected several videos demonstrating how HMP solution uses a global task scheduler to efficiently allocate workload to different combinations of CPU cores. This introductory video graphically illustrates how HMP solution assigns work to various combinations of Cortex-A7 and Cortex-A15 cores in the Exynos 5 Octa based on the computational intensity of a given task.
HMP Solution with Angry Birds game
This demonstration uses the popular mobile game Angry Birds to illustrate how the Exynos 5420 platform achieves energy-efficient performance through HMP solution with big.LITTLE technology. It shows power-efficient LITTLE cores can handle light and simple tasks including running Angry Birds even as the big cores stays idle to maximize energy efficiency.
HMP Solution with QuickOffice app
Using the QuickOffice application, this simulation shows how the Exynos 5420 with HMP uses a global task scheduler to assign the right combination of CPU cores to handle each function within the app. HMP solution can enable numerous combinations of cores depending on the workloads of the tasks. Notably, it can enable the simultaneous use of all eight cores for processing intense workloads.
