Today's display driver IC (DDI) solutions from Samsung offer significant benefits for your display devices.
Mobile DDI
For mobile devices, Samsung offers full lineup of single-chip display driver ICs for CSTN, TFT (Amorphous, LTPS), and OLED panels. Samsung leverages its Memory Embedded DDI technology to integrate the smallest sized GRAM into the DDI.
Compared to Non-memory DDI, Memory Embedded DDI provides greater value for money, especially taking into account the considerable power savings. Samsung Mobile DDI includes entire coverage of any display technology. As total solution provider with technology leadership, Samsung renders cost-competitiveness from optimal process, vertical integration, and single-chip-solution, for its Mobile DDI lineup.
Samsung Mobile DDI supports industry demands for simplified system designs, enabling the use of slimmer form factors in mobile applications. The MIPI interface, operating at 800 Mbps, integrates in these chips to meet the faster performance requirements of the latest apps. Targeted applications for the Mobile DDI include smartphones and feature phones, as well as MP3 and portable multimedia players (PMPs).
Panel DDI
For panels, Samsung has developed a variety of DDI core technologies comprising COF (chip-on-film), COG (chip-on-glass), and u-LTCOF (film) that operates at 45% lower temperatures than earlier devices.
These solutions are ideal for monitors, laptops, tablets, and TVs, offering a wide range of analog and digital operating voltages to suit different applications. For example, low analog voltages to achieve low power consumption in a laptop or high analog voltages to achieve fast response times in an LCD TV.
Panel DDIs use high-speed interfaces, the latest being AiPi++, which operates at 1.65 Gbps with a target of 3.1 Gbps. The core technology also comprises a high pin count to reduce the total number of driver ICs, point-to-point 2-line technology to reduce thickness, and multi-channel operation to cover a range of panel resolutions.
Timing Controller
For panels, Samsung provides high performance Timing Controller that supports several interfaces, such as RSDS, m-LVDS, RVDS, e-RVDS, and AiPi++. Samsung's Timing Controller renders low EMI and consumes less power while communicating with column drivers. Other advantages include support for digital independent Gamma-correction and various display resolution, such as VGA and WUXGA.
Touch Controller
For touch panels, Samsung provides a capacitive type multi-touch all-points touch screen controller. It includes a capacitive touch sensing circuit and an ARM cortex-M3 core with on-chip software program and data memory.
