FAQs

A 01.

SAMSUNG software solution only supports OneNAND™ devices and OneNAND™ has its own internal ECC logic. Thus you don’t need to worry about it. For spare assignment policy, you can refer the application note NAND Flash Spare Area Assignment.

There are several ROM-Writer companies for gang-programming which support GBBM2 scheme of SAMSUNG like as follows.

A 03.

Samsung Flash Software uses GBBM2 scheme to manage invalid blocks.
Based on OneNAND™ Flash SPEC, OneNAND™ Flash may have 2% invalid blocks of the total blocks in OneNAND™ Flash memory.
And, 6 blocks are allocated to manage those invalid blocks and to save partition information. Therefore, "2% invalid blocks + 6 meta blocks" are allocated for invalid block management.

For example, let's consider about 128 Mbytes to be OneNAND™ device.
It, a total of 1024 blocks, has 20 blocks available for reservoir blocks and 6 blocks for meta blocks. Accordingly, the number of blocks which GBBM2 scheme uses is 26 blocks.
