SAMSUNG PocketFS™ is an installable file system using OneNAND flash memory as storage on any consumer electronic devices with Windows Mobile/CE operating system. It overcomes the existing FAT file system's weakness with the power off recovery, and is quickly recovered even if the power is suddenly lost. SAMSUNG PocketFS™ is fully compatible with FAT16/32 file system standards that have been used in most operating systems, so multimedia data stored in OneNAND flash memory can be detected on any other systems.
SAMSUNG PocketFS™ has basic functionalities as a traditional file system that enables users to organize data stored in OneNAND flash memory in a file, directory, and volume. Also PocketFS efficiently manages FAT with map based manipulation of a file allocation table. For 'robustness', SAMSUNG PocketFS™ is a log-based transactional FAT file system that can guarantee the integrity of file system metadata and provide fast recovery from sudden power failure.
SAMSUNG PocketFS™ combined with PocketStoreII can be a total solution for OneNAND flash memory, featuring a well-optimized file system and block device driver for OneNAND.
SAMSUNG PocketFS™ is absolutely compatible with FAT16/32 file systems within Windows Mobile/CE devices. No modification is required in the application.
System Performance EnhancementSAMSUNG PocketFS™ provides higher performance than current file systems for Windows Mobile/CE. SAMSUNG PocketFS™ provides high system performance particularly for 'append write' function, which is critical in open-ended video recording applications. And PocketFS supports fast deletion of a large file and improves look up algorithm. In addition, if OneNAND flash memory will be fragmented due using it more and more, PocketFS preserves stable write performance.
System RobustnessSAMSUNG PocketFS™ reliably runs at any time. Even if the power is suddenly lost, it recovers quickly and runs normally. Due to the implemention of log-based, SAMSUNG PocketFS™ preserves meta-data integrity such as Directory Entry and FAT table of file system.
