Samsung delivers ultimate LTE experience with European tier 1 operator in Czech Republic
on Oct 31, 2012
PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC – October 30, 2012 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, an advanced network solution provider, and T-Mobile Czech Republic, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom AG announced today the successful completion of a Smart LTE Networks field trial operating on 2.6GHz spectrum. During extensive field testing in Prague, Czech Republic, Samsungs Smart LTE Networks proved its considerable benefits compared with conventional LTE solutions.
The LTE trial were conducted in Prague and follow the successful completion of a jointly conducted LTE field trial in South Korea, during which Deutsche Telekom were impressed with Samsung’s innovative, future proof technology and its commitment to the European infrastructure market.
The Prague trial yielded results showcasing a significant increase of throughput capacity at the macro cell edge of up to 120% and an overall average network throughput increase of up to 30% dramatically improving the customer experience whilst simultaneously reducing operator CAPEX. The introduction of small cells in HetNet architectures is benefiting even further from Samsung Smart LTE concept, which was also proved during Prague field trial.
By applying its own advanced radio resource allocation technology, Samsung’s Smart LTE Networks enables mobile service providers to reduce interference among network sectors and cells, enabling effective cell site expansion with little or no loss of performance. This innovative LTE solution substantially reduces operators’ total expenditure by decreasing the number of cells required in a given network configuration. Samsung Smart LTE Networks made its commercial debut in Korea at the beginning of 2012 and earlier this year, won “Most Innovative Commercial LTE Launch” Award at LTE World Summit 2012.
“This test was very important not only locally but also for the entire Deutsche Telekom Group. Successful testing of Smart LTE technology underlines our ambition to seek for innovative network solutions to increase customer experience and network efficiency.” says Klaus-Jürgen Krath, Senior Vicepresident Radio Networks at Deutsche Telekom.
“I’m glad to have successfully completed the LTE trial with Deutsche Telekom, in which we brought the full weight of our LTE experience, after which we expect to enter long-term partnerships with leading mobile operators.” said Youngky Kim, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Telecommunication Systems Business of Samsung Electronics. “Samsung has been accumulating significant experiences in LTE commercialization around the globe and trying to be steps ahead in technologies. We are thoroughly ready for European market and we are going to provide such experiences and technologies including the most enhanced LTE solutions.”
Mark Thompson, Sales & Marketing Director of Samsung’s European Network Operations “Today, 1 in 5 global LTE connections are made through Samsung networks. We have been working closely with T-Mobile for some time now and they indicated a strong desire to demonstrate the benefits of our Smart LTE Networks in Europe. Early feedback from T-Mobile, their customers, the local media and analysts suggest the Prague trial was extremely successful.”
Following the success of Samsung’s LTE and Mobile WiMAX deployments in the US, Asia and the Middle East, Samsung continues to strengthen its market presence in Europe. As part of this strategy, earlier in 2011 Samsung founded a specialist organization, the ENO (Europe Network Operations), as the center of its 4G business in Europe.
Samsung’s distinguished LTE solution is backed by over 30 years of experience and leadership in developing and commercializing world first telecom technologies. Based on its wide range of field-experience in OFDMA technology, Samsung has already successfully partnered with dozens of mobile service providers to help them implement the most advanced 4G solutions including Sprint and MetroPCS in US, KDDI in Japan, SK Telecom, KT in South Korea, Mobily in Saudi Arabia and H3G in UK.
