Hosts live demonstrations of Samsung Smart LTE and Voice over LTE (VoLTE) with latest End-to-End Solution at 4G World 2011

CHICAGO, US – October 25, 2011 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, an advanced network solutions provider, today held live demonstrations of its Smart LTE and Voice over LTE (VoLTE) solutions at 4G World 2011 in Chicago, US.

“It is clear that LTE is central to the shift from voice-centric to data-centric communications. As such, the telecommunications industry is working to find the most effective way to meet end-user demand for a high speed multimedia and data services, while continuing to provide a stable and high-quality voice service” said Mr. Youngky Kim, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Telecommunication Systems Business of Samsung Electronics.

“Using its deep expertise in OFDMA technologies, Samsung introduced its Smart LTE solution earlier this year to help solve the challenges mobile service operators face as they handle exponentially increasing mobile data traffic. Smart LTE solution will debut commercially in Korea at the beginning of 2012, and we are pleased to provide an opportunity for leading mobile service operators in the Americas to test and experience these solutions first-hand at the most important 4G industry event in the world” added Kim.

At 4G World, Samsung is demonstrating the enhanced data throughput enabled by Samsung Smart LTE solution, which is designed to handle vast quantities of mobile data traffic in dense urban areas. By applying its own advanced radio resource allocation technology, Samsung’s Smart LTE solution enables mobile service providers to reduce interference among network sectors and cells, enabling effective cell site expansion with little or no loss of performance. This innovative LTE solution substantially reduces operators’ capital and operational expenditures by decreasing the number of cells required in a given network configuration.

Additionally, Samsung demonstrated VoLTE using its end-to-end solution, including network equipment as well as its LTE-enabled smartphones and chipsets. Samsung delivers high VoLTE Quality of Service (QoS), guaranteeing seamless voice communication even during network traffic congestion. Both the network equipment and smartphones used for the VoLTE demonstration are expected to be commercially available in 2012.

Samsung also introduced its SmartMBS, a multi-standard base station which unifies LTE, 4G and 3G network technologies on a single platform. SmartMBS enables quick and easy integration of LTE into existing networks at considerably lower costs. With a wide-bandwidth 65MHz Remote Radio Unit (RRU) which has fully Software Defined Radio (SDR) capable, SmartMBS supports both contiguous and non-contiguous carriers, and be easily reused for additional technologies in a give spectrum band.

Samsung has opened the era of advanced OFDMA technology and played a key role in expanding 4G markets around the globe. In particular, Samsung supported to launch the US’s first commercial LTE and Mobile WiMAX service. Based on its wide range of field-experience in OFDMA technology, Samsung has already successfully partnered with dozens of mobile service providers to help them implement the most advanced 4G solutions including Sprint and MetroPCS in US, KDDI in Japan and Mobily in Saudi Arabia. Samsung provides a complete end-to-end LTE solution from radio access network, core network, IMS, system integration to managed service.
