  • 2022 SEAL Business Stability Awards

    Samsung Electronics received the Sustainable Product Award at the 2022 SEAL Business Stability Awards. Presented by Sustainability, Environmental Achievement and Leadership (SEAL), a California-based NGO - in recognition of our application of materials recycled from discarded fishing nets to Galaxy products - the award is testament to our commitment to advancing sustainability and preserving the environment.

  • 2023 Social Impact Awards

    Our “Transforming Ghost Nets into Mobile Technology” campaign won in the Sustainability Campaign Sector at the 2023 Social Impact Awards organized by PRNEWS. Through this campaign, we accomplished our goal of applying recycled materials to all Galaxy devices launched in 2022 and reaffirmed our will to contribute to the preservation of marine ecosystems.

  • Reuters Responsible Business Awards

    Samsung Electronics won the Responsible Business Award from the global media group Reuters for two consecutive years in 2020 and 2021. Galaxy Upcycling at Home won the Circular Transition Award in 2021, and Samsung Global Goals App won the SDG Impact Award in 2020.

  • U.S. EPA’s SMM Award

    Our Galaxy S10 eco-conscious packaging received the Champion Award in the Program Category at the 2020 SMM Awards by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The packaging eliminated the use of plastic and vinyl materials and reduced packaging weight by 16% from the previous model by minimizing paper usage and applying pulp molds.

  • Energy Winner of the Year

    Our Galaxy Book3 Pro 360 was recognized for its energy-efficient technology with the Energy Winner Award at the 26th Energy Winners of the Year Awards in 2023, hosted by Consumers Korea and sponsored by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Environment and the Korea Energy Agency.

The Carbon Trust Certifications : Carbon Footprint

The Carbon Trust certified the following products as "CO2 Measured" in accordance with PAS 2050,
a standard to assess carbon emissions throughout the product life cycle, from production to disposal.

UL ECOLOGO Certification

The following mobile devices obtained UL ECOLOGO certification, which is in line with the
American National Standards Institute’s ANSI/UL 110 Standard for Sustainability for Mobile Phones.
The certification is based on alternative materials assessment, energy consumption reduction of battery charging systems and third-party verification
  1. Galaxy S24 Ultra features recycled materials in the Top Speaker Module, Bottom Speaker Module, Case Front, S Pen Inner Cover, S Pen’s Knob Holder, Side Key, Volume Key, SIM Tray, Camera Deco, Front Screen, Back Glass and Battery.
  2. The battery of the Galaxy S24 Ultra includes a minimum of 50% pre- and post-consumer recycled cobalt. The measurement is based on weight.
  3. The speakers of the Galaxy S24 Ultra include 100% pre- and post-consumer recycled neodymium. The measurement is based on weight.
  4. The speakers of the Galaxy S24 Ultra include a minimum of 40% pre- and post-consumer recycled steel. The measurement is based on weight.
  5. The Galaxy S24 Ultra includes a minimum of 10% pre-consumer recycled Thermoplastic Polyurethane in the side and volume keys.
  6. Standards for the Control of Substances Used in Products
  7. Samsung Electronics joined RE100, a global initiative to reduce indirect carbon emissions from power usage(Scope 2), and is pursuing the conversion of used electricity to renewable energy by 2050. First, Samsung Electronics aims to achieve its renewable energy target at all overseas operations by 2027. In the case of the US, China, and Europe, which have already reached this target, we plan to expand direct power purchase agreements(PPAs) centering on the regions equipped with active renewable energy policies and systems. The DX division aims to achieve its renewable energy target by 2027, both at home and abroad.
  8. Samsung's zero waste to landfill goal is based on UL certifications, which certify global operations based on the % of waste diverted.
  9. Our factory sites are required to meet international standards for ISO14001(environmental management system) and ISO50001(energy management system) certifications. We also strive to ensure that our suppliers have robust occupational health and safety management systems in place by encouraging them to attain certification for international standards and reflect related outcomes in the comprehensive supplier evaluations. As of 2022, all business sites of Samsung Electronics have attained the certifications and 90% of suppliers subject to comprehensive partner evaluations have acquired the certification.
  10. To meet the request of some clients, plastic shrink vinyl or PP sealing sticker is applied to certain packaging box variation. Percentage calculated based on total weight of plastic components used in packaging divided by total weight of packaging.
  11. Calculation based on total weight of all plastic packaging components for any of the S24 series compared to total weight of all plastic packaging components for the S7.
