Company Overview

Samsung Electronics Hong Kong established in 1985, employing approximately 450 people.  The company consists of four main business units, including: Digital Media Business, LCD Business, Semiconductor Business and Telecommunication Business.

Samsung Electronics Hong Kong kept their effort on the role as a corporate citizen synchronizing Samsung’s corporate philosophy and value.  With the goal in promoting a harmonic society development, Samsung has been very supportive in a broad range of international and local activities in the area of sports, education, charity and environmental.

Sports

Samsung’s Olympic involvement began in 1988, when it became a Worldwide Olympic Partner in the wireless communications equipment category. Samsung brought Hong Kong citizen a chance to participate in the international event began with the public nomination of torchbearers for the 2008 Olympic Torch Relay . In order to echo the Olympic atmosphere, Samsung Electronics HK has supported the Sports Federatoin and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong in the Olympic Day Run in Hong Kong for a consecutive two years. The aim of this event is to promote sports in Hong Kong and in turn benefit to a healthy lifestyle. More than 7,000 Hong Kong citizen and 8 corporate teams participated and tremendous Olympic atmosphere was created at the event.

Samsung also supports the local sports event, including the Hong Kong Sports Star Awards, Hong Kong Open Golf Championship, and World Cyber Game Hong Kong Preliminary.

Educations

As a responsible corporate citizen, Samsung Electronics Hong Kong has driven to contribute, promote and support academic advancement in different universities and continuous school of education . The aim is to support and encourage youngsters for reaching their ideal and nurturing their creativity.

IAt the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Samsung Electronics Hong Kong has been working with the marketing survey study for two consecutive years in giving students an opportunity to learn outside of the school and in the real marketing world. In order to promote Korean culture and encourage Chinese and Korean social custom exchange, Samsung Electronics Hong Kong has established a scholarship program for Korean Studies. At Hong Kong Polytechnic University and The University of Hong Kong, Samsung Electronics provides products to enhance school facilities for better study environment.

Lastly, Samsung has challenged engineering students at 5 local Universities to design electronic gadgets that will contribute to the society. The applications received to date demonstrate a tremendous level of passion for engineering and allow for demonstration of their creativity.

Charities

Samsung Electronics Hong Kong has always been very concern on happenings in the community. They have taken the initiative to work with different charity organizations in helping those underprivileged and offer them love and care. Since Year 2003, Samsung Electronics Hong Kong has been supporting the Hon g Kong Red Cross “Pass-it-On” Campaign and they have been helping to raise funds for the humanitarian work of Hong Kong Red Cross and to promote the message of “Love to share and Share to Love” among people. During the festive season of Christmas, Samsung Electronics Hong Kong will donate HK$88 on behalf of the customers who purchase Samsung products in support to this campaign. Apart from that, Samsung also formulated a Samsung Volunteer Service Team to participate in the charity sales of this campaign’s token and in services at hospital or schools. Year 2008 will be the 5th year being nominated as the Caring Company. It is an honour to be having the Caring Company Award for 5th year as a foreign company.

Samsung also supports other social service organizations including Orbis , Hong Kong Cancer Fund, The Hong Kong Society for the blind , The Community Chest, and Heaven of Hope. This also demonstrates the determination of Samsung as a corporate citizen participating and helping the underprivileged in a society.

Environmental Protection

Apart from the above areas, Samsung Electronics Hong Kong also participated in the Computer Recycling Programme which again demonstrated as a responsible corporate citizen. The recycling program has extended to not only the related electronic products, but moon cake and used clothes. The objective is to help in penetrating the idea of recycling in every livelihood.
