With the theme of “Boundless Love With Intelligence”, Solve for Tomorrow 2015, a platform for tertiary students to develop App to help SEN children to integrate into the community, has reached its 2nd stage. To sustainably nurture tertiary students’ potential, Samsung arranged for the 15 shortlisted teams to join Heep Hong Society Experience Tour and Miss Hunny Magic Workshop. Through interacting with Heep Hong SEN experts and SEN students, tertiary students, who rarely reach SEN, were able to deeply understand their needs. The tertiary students can therefore design more effective Apps and share their experiences with the public.

Apart from the above workshops, Samsung has provided tabletsto the shortlisted teams for theirApps testing. Moreover, to ensure the Apps can reach a professional quality, each team is assigned with an App development specialist as mentor, who will provide technical advices through face-to-face meetings and instant communication Apps.

Heep Hong Society Experience Tour

On 22 August, Samsung joined with its strategic partner Heep Hong Society to provide a tour visiting its Chan Chung Hon Centre in Tseung Kwan O. During the day, Heep Hong SEN experts and frontline staff introduced the services provided in the centre, as well as the SEN students’ backgrounds and difficulties. After the introduction, the tertiary students toured around the centre, in which Heep Hong experts thoroughly explained the facilities and training projects. Through this activity, the students gained a deeper understand of Heep Hong Society and SEN students.

Miss Hunny Magic Workshop

On 29 August, the shortlisted tertiary students and Samsung ambassadors joined the Miss Hunny Magic Workshop in Heep Hong Tung Chung Centre under Samsung’s arrangement. The workshop offered them a chance to meet and interact with SEN children. Samsung invited a famous female magician and YouTuber, Miss Hunny, as the workshop’s instructor, teaching everyone simple magic tricks.

Before the workshop began, Samsung representative Ada said: “We hope everyone can interact with SEN children during the workshop and understand their needs. We hope you can in turn exert your strengths and design more effective Apps. Last but not least, to share your experiences and feelings with the public.”

During the workshop, apart from the magic performance, Miss Hunny also taught some magic tricks. An enthusiastic atmosphere surrounded the workshop when tertiary students, Samsung’s ambassadors and SEN children were practicing the magic tricks. Laughter filled the place and everyone was interacting well. Every participant benefited a great deal from the activity.

Before the event ended, one of the Samsung’s ambassadors, Chief Marketing Officer Mr Lawrence Chow, once again encouraged the tertiary students, “Apart from the tablets provided earlier, Samsung has also arranged a professional App developer as mentor for each team. We hope everyone can use the resources wisely and be eager to ask the experts questions in order to design an App that can help SEN students the most. I hope that the Apps designed by the 15 teams will be professional enough to be included in Samsung Galaxy Apps Store. These Apps can serve more people in need by allowing the public to download them for free.”

Samsung has also announced the upcoming website specifically for the campaign. It will include information of the competition and donations. It aims to further attract people to understand the entire campaign’s background and raise the awareness on SEN students. Each time an individual clicks “I want to support” on the donation website, Samsung will donate HK$10 to Heep Hong Society (Donation cap - HK$300,000) to help SEN children to receive timely support and training.

Samsung hopes the above workshops can equip tertiary students with deeper knowledge about Heep Hong Society and the needs of SEN students. Integrated with Samsung’s full range of support, the tertiary students are anticipated to unleash their potentials, contribute the community and share their precious experiences. The society will in turn recognize SEN students’ needs and help them better integrate into the society.
