How do I install and use Kids Mode on my Samsung Galaxy Tab S?

In order to install Kids Mode you will need the latest update (see the bottom section of this guide for how to update the firmware if you're not sure how to do so). 


Installing Kids Mode

Once your tablet is up to date Kids Mode will appear in the apps section. The icon will have an arrow pointing downward. This indicates that Kids Mode is ready to be installed. Follow the steps below to learn how to install Kids Mode.

  1. Tap Kids Mode. The application will launch.

  2. Tap Install to install Kids Mode.

  3. A new icon will appear after the installation is complete. Tap this icon and follow the instructions inside to set up Kids Mode for use on your tablet.


Setting a PIN

When you first launch Kids Mode you will be asked to set a personal indentification number. Follow the steps below to do so.

  1. Open Kids Mode.
  2. Tap Set PIN.

  3. Enter a 4-digit PIN you will not forget. Re-enter the same PIN again when prompted to confirm it.


Changing your PIN

Follow the steps below to learn how to change the parental password (PIN) in Kids Mode:

  1. Open Kids Mode.
  2. Tap the Parental Control icon.

  3. Enter your current PIN.
  4. Tap General and then tap Change PIN.




Adding apps in Kids Mode

Follow the steps below to learn how to add applications in Kids Mode:

  1. Open Kids Mode.
  2. Tap the Parental Control icon.

  3. Enter your current PIN.
  4. Tap Applications and then tap the + button to add an app.

  5. Select the application you wish to add by tapping the check box next to it. A green tick will appear next to each selected app.  

    Note: not all applications are compatible with Kids Mode.

  6. Tap Done when you’re finished.

    Note: you’re allowed a maximum of 30 applications in Kids Mode.


Apps that you have added to Kids Mode will appear as presents on the Home screen within Kids Mode. Tap the present to reveal the app.



Setting a time limit for use in Kids Mode

You can set a time limit of up to 3 hours. A counter will pop up to show the time remaining once the final five minutes have begun and then after those last minutes the tablet will lock (and the parental PIN must be entered to unlock it). Follow the steps below to learn how to set a time limit in Kids Mode:

  1. Open Kids Mode.
  2. Tap the Parental Control icon.

  3. Enter your PIN.
  4. Tap Daily play time limit and then tap the switch in the top-right to activate it.


5. Tap the circle in the middle to select the time limit.



Exiting Kids Mode 

To exit Kids Mode touch the Exit icon and enter your PIN.


Updating the firmware in your device

Important: Follow the steps below to update your Samsung Galaxy Tab S to the latest software. You will need a Samsung account in order to update your device.

Warning: Do not plug your device into a wall or PC during the update as this will not allow the update to download and install. Prior to updating your device ensure that your tablet has at least 50% battery power. If the power in your unit is below 50% there is a chance the unit will malfunction.   


  1. Tap the Home key and then tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings > General > About tablet > Software update.

  3. Tap Update.
  4. A pop up will appear. Tap OK to look for the latest software.
  5. If an update is available for your device a message will appear. Tap Download to install the update. The update will begin to download on your device.
  6. After the download is complete tap Install to install the new update.
  7. After the installation is complete tap OK to restart your tablet.
