[Symptom]

The CPU information on Control Panel→System is different from the processor CPU information on the Device Manager. For example, 'Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 3.00 GHz' is displayed on the System window, and ' Genuine Intel(R) CPU 3.40 GHz' is displayed on the Device Manager.

[Cause]

It is a bug of Vista. It occurs because both programs have a different method to read the CPU information.

[Counselor]

It is not a problem of the computer but a bug of Vista.

The Device Manger reads processor information each time it is run, so it shows the updated information. But the System window does not update the processor information automatically. Therefore the information on the Device Manager is correct.

However, if the Windows Experience Level is executed on the System window, the processor information is updated with the correct information.
