The Picture On My LCD TV Breaks Up Into Squares.

Last Update date : 2012.01.10

If the picture on your LCD TV breaks up into squares, most likely the problem is caused by a weak signal.

To increase signal strength, you can:

  • Attach an in-line amplifier
  • Use the Fine Tune function if your problem is with over-the-air analog (standard) channels
  • Use the Signal Strength function if your problem is with over-the-air digital channels

These three solutions are discussed below.

Attaching An In-Line Amplifier

You can try attaching an in-line signal amplifier (also called an RF amplifier or a signal booster) to the cable connecting your antenna, cable wall outlet, or cable box to your TV. Often, amplifying the signal will improve the picture. You should be able to get an in-line amplifier at Radio Shack, Circuit City, or a similar store.

Improving Over-the-Air Digital Reception

  4. Press the Up or Down arrow button on your remote to select Signal Strength, and then press the Enter button. The Signal Strength screen appears. The stronger the digital signal, the more bars to the right are darkened.
  5. To increase the digital signal strength if it is weak, physically adjust your antenna.
  6. Continue to adjust your antenna until you find the position with the strongest digital signal.
  7. Press the Exit button to exit.

Note: The No Signal message may appear on your screen depending on the broadcasting station conditions, even though the Signal Strength screen indicates your TV is receiving a signal.
