SEOUL, Korea – January 3, 2005 – The employees of Samsung express their heartfelt sympathy and support to the hundreds of thousands of people affected by the Indian Ocean tsunami. In response to this tragic event, Samsung is announcing a donation of $1 million (U.S.) in financial and material support for relief and recovery efforts. At the same time, more than 10,000 Samsung employees located in the affected areas have already volunteered to take part in the relief efforts.
Samsung's donation announcement is an extension of efforts already undertaken by local Samsung subsidiaries in the affected region and around the world. Employees at the Samsung subsidiary in Indonesia are contributing to a collection fund. In Malaysia, Samsung rushed mobile service vehicles and employees from the Penang Service Plaza to the disaster scene, where free repair services will be offered.
