  • Elegant Large Screen Samsung SyncMaster B2430

When it comes to LCD screens, you can never go wrong with Samsung. Based in Korea, Samsung has been a world leader in pioneering new and exciting technology for the masses. LCD, LED or even some new-fangled technology, Samsung will try them all. Even so, they never forget about their core mission of giving the mass the best value money can buy, and the B2430 is a testament of that belief. Sporting a 23.6 inch diagonal screen, the B2430 is the largest amongst the monitors in this showdown. The design of the B2430 is reminiscence of Samsung’s own line of televisions. With the tapered stand and also the crystal bezel surrounding the screen, it looks like a miniature LCD TV, but on your desktop. The Samsung only offers two kinds of connectivity – VGA and DVI, which will alienate those who has HDMI cables to connect their devices to. Even so, the two connections on the Samsung are enough to accept 1920 x 1080 input, perfect for full HD. Setting up the monitor is an easy task – plug the cables, and turn it on. The B2430 features a touch sensitive row of buttons for the power and the controls for the On Screen Display (OSD). It may look gimmicky at times, but it works. Access to the OSD is easy and the menus are well laid out for people to adjust their monitor settings to perfectly suit their use. There is also an input button where two inputs can be connected simultaneously and select between the two. The interesting looking monitor stand, while a bit spindly looking, is in fact very sturdy and capable to carry the whole weight of the monitor with ease. It is also a tilting function to give the user a better viewing experience by tilting to the front or back. While it only reaches around 3 degrees or so front and back, it is sufficient in creating a viewing experience tailored to the user. The display on the Samsung is crisp and clear, although it does have a slight bluish tint to it at the natural mode. There are also other viewing modes on the Samsung, including Sepia and Greytone to give your viewing experience a more interesting look and feel. We played back several media files, on top of the standard day to day desktop and office usage scenario. This is to show how did the monitors faired in reproducing the colour spectrum and gamut that is expected from a high end product. Diablo 3 is a sequel to Blizzard Activision’s every famous Diablo series of games. With its mixture of muted and vibrant colours, it represents a perfect testbed for our monitor to show its prowess. The dungeon scene is very dark, perfect for the tone of the game, and the Samsung did not skimp on details. All the dark parts are sufficiently dark, and the lit area are gloriously lit. However, there is a slight bluish tint to compare with the other competitors in the line-up today. The Samsung B2430 is pretty, but has limited connectivity options.
