How do I upgrade my Galaxy S5 to Android 5.0 (Lollipop)?

The update can be done through Firmware Over-The-Air (FOTA) and through Samsung Smart Switch.

 

Here are some reminders before starting the update:

 

■  Please ensure that there is enough memory space available on the device. Approximately 3 GB of memory space is required to complete the OS upgrade.


■  If there is not enough memory space to complete the upgrade, the device will be restored to KitKat OS. If this happens, please retry after creating enough memory space.

 

■  The required free memory space may vary depending on the device’s status. If you need to have free memory space, please transfer files to your PC using a USB cable via Media device MTP connection, or transfer files to an external memory space such as an SD memory card.

The device can be directly updated to the latest software by the Firmware Over-The-Air (FOTA) service. To do this, follow the steps below:


Step 1: On the Home screen, tap Apps.

Step 2: On the Apps screen, tap Settings.

 

. 

 

Step 3: Tap About device.

 

. 


Step 4: Tap Software updates.

 

. 


Step 5: Tap Update now to check if the latest software is available on the server for your device.

 

. 


Step 6: If new firmware is available, there will be pop up message. Tap OK to proceed.

 

. 

 

Step 7: Updates will be downloaded to the device. You may tap HIDE to minimise the download screen.

 

. 

 


Step 8: Once download is completed, tap INSTALL.

 

. 

 

 

Step 9: Software of your device is now download

Quick Tips: To automatically check for available updates, tap the Auto update switch to activate it. To download updates only when a Wi-Fi connection is activated, tap the Wi-Fi only switch to activate it. These steps are illustrated on step 4 above.

Updating using Smart Switch

 

Please note the following guidelines:

■ Do not turn off the computer or disconnect the USB cable while the device is updating.

■ While updating the device, do not connect other media devices to the computer. Doing so may interfere with the update process.

■ Before updating, disconnect all other media devices from the computer.


Step 1: On the computer, visit http://www.samsung.com/nz/support/smartswitch/ to download and install Smart Switch for PC.


Step 2: On the computer, launch Smart Switch.


Step 3: Connect the device to the computer using a USB cable.

 
Step 4: Once your device is connected it will check for the latest software updated. A prompt will appear if a software update is available, after which simply follow the onscreen instructions.
