There are coloured lines on the edge of my TV screen

You may see a thin black and white or green line along the top, bottom, or side of the screen when the picture size of the TV is set to Screen Fit or JustScan. This is called an Overscan line. Here is an example of what the line may look like:




JustScan adjusts the picture so that each pixel of the broadcast image is matched to a pixel on the screen so that picture fits the screen exactly. Some broadcast programs, however, do not carry all the picture resolution information necessary to fill the screen when the TV is set to JustScan. The result of this lack of information is the overscan line – the area of the picture for which the resolution information is missing.

To resolve this issue, set the picture size on the TV to 16:9. The 16:9 screen size has overscan which extends the picture beyond the edges of the screen and removes the overscan line. You can change the picture size by pressing the P.SIZE button on the remote control.
