No, your data will not be overwritten. Existing content such as contacts and SMS messages will remain, while the new content will be added to your new Samsung Galaxy device.

Contacts, text messages, calendar, photos, videos, music, memos, call logs, Wi-Fi settings, documents and bookmarks.
Please note that apps do not transfer across and will need to be downloaded again from the Google Play store.

You can transfer the contents of the old phone to a microSD card, then restore the contents on your new phone. Galaxy S 6 and Galaxy S 6 edge users only: These devices do not support a microSD card. When transferring content from a device with a microSD card, Smart Switch automatically detects SD card content in the old device, and the content will appear in the transfer list under the heading "Content in SD Card." The SD card content is transferred to the Galaxy S 6 or Galaxy S 6 edge in the same manner as all the other content.

What you will need is determined by your old device type. iOS users Transfer using iCloud: Before running the Smart Switch Mobile app, you will need your Apple® iCloud ID and password, as well as access to your iOS device (preferred but may not be required depending on whether it has been backed up recently). Transfer using Micro USB to USB adapter: You must have a Micro USB to USB (OTG) adapter and standard iOS USB cable. The Samsung Smart Switch Mobile app must be installed on the new device. Android users The Samsung Smart Switch Mobile app must be installed on both the old and new devices. Also make sure that both devices are fully charged before starting the switch.

Your personal content is safe with Smart Switch. All information transferred from iCloud backup servers to your phone is encrypted and never exposed to any other Samsung or third-party devices.

On the Smart Switch Mobile Basic Information screen, simply tap the name of the content type to deselect it from the transfer.

For Android devices, Smart Switch should be installed on both the receiving and transferring devices. For iOS devices, the app only needs to be installed on the new device.

End to end process takes about 25 mins for 10GB of content#.

The iCloud backup option does not include music and relies on a good data connection as well as may result in data charges.

Pre-requisites:

  • Up to date backup available in iCloud. If unsure, go to your compatible iPhone settings | iCloud | Backup and click on “Back up now”
  • Sufficient iCloud storage for iCloud content backup
  • Good data connection**

1. Download and install the Smart Switch app** from Galaxy Apps or the Google Play store on your compatible Samsung Galaxy smartphone and start the Smart Switch app.
2. Read and accept the Smart Switch Terms & Conditions
3. Select “iOS Device”
4. Select “Import from iCloud”
5. Log into your iCloud account using your iCloud credentials
6. Select the content to transfer and tap “Import”
7. Follow the prompts until it’s complete.

When you back up and restore the SD card, you’ll find your data in the Smart Switch Backup folder.

You need extra memory just temporarily when you receive and save data. When you send data from an Android device to your Galaxy device, you need 300 MB in addition to the data you are transferring. If you are receiving data from iCloud, you need an extra 500 MB.

When data transfer is complete, Smart Switch Mobile saves the received data in a format that can be used in the default app. In this process, the message ‘Saving...’ appears. When you see this message, you can disconnect the devices. Once the data is saved, you can find it in the default app. The time it takes to save the received data is proportional to the amount of the data.

Please make sure that the same application is running on both devices. After selecting [Send from], place the device with the data close to the other device's microphone. If they still do not connect, try connecting them manually by selecting “Manual connection” in the application’s pop-up window.

Differences could be caused if the iOS device is out of sync with iCloud or the iOS device has not been backed up recently. Verify two things: Sync between iOS devices and iCloud: On your iOS device, navigate to Settings > iCloud to verify all desired content types are backed up to iCloud. Sync between iOS devices and iCloud Backup Server: Back up your iOS device just prior to running Smart Switch.

Smart Switch Mobile uses high frequency audio to establish a connection between devices, therefore if speaker of the old device is blocked with the hand or surface, the audio isn’t well transferred to the target device and the connection is lost. And, you may not be able to connect if the application is not open or the button is not tapped on one of the devices, or if a pair of earphones or a Bluetooth headset is connected to the device.

Tapping “Later” only removes the notification from the home screen but remains in the notification panel & lock screen until “Cleared”.

There is a known Android OS issue for in-market Samsung devices that will be addressed with the Lollipop maintenance release. The work around is: Tap on “Cancel” when the prompt “Allow the app Gallery to access the USB device” and proceed as normal.
